THE MUNICIPAL REGISTER
The Government pays an allowance direct to the Town Hall in Orba, for everyone who is registered on the Padrón. This money subsidizes your rates (Suma) and means that the Town Hall has money to improve services such as roads, rubbish collection and the new Health Centre. To do this, it is not necessary to have Residencia or to live here all the time, and neither will it disadvantage you in any way, as the register is for Municipal/Electoral purposes only. The more people who register on the Padrón, the more money the Town Hall will get in subsidies, which in turn will enable them to improve local services.
To register, take your passport/s and escritura to the Town Hall which is open 10am to 2pm Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. When registered you will be entitled to vote at both Municipal and European Elections. It is also necessary to have an official copy of your Padrón registration when buying a new car.
